Solar Electric Systems - Tesla

What the transportation of tomorrow is going to look like. Kinda.

The Tesla Roadster Sport

In March 2010, the FL GreenTeam purchased a Tesla Roadster Sport. Reed Wilson, President of the company, is passionate about two things: energy conservation and sports cars. This car demonstrates what the possibilities are for the next generation of transportation.

A 12.6 KW solar electric system is installed at the FL Green Team Ft Myers headquarters, which provides electricity for our entire facility. We use the solar electricity generated to power our computers, lights and phones. In addition, the Tesla batteries are charged with the electricity produced from the solar electric system. The Tesla is truly a solar powered car!

The Tesla Roadster Sport has 288 horsepower with 295 lb-ft torque. The Solar Powered Tesla will go 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, making it faster than a 911 Porsche or a Z06 Corvette.

Elon Musk, a founder of Pay Pal, started Tesla Motors in 2003. The all-electric roadsters are manufactured in California and are currently sold at 13 Tesla dealerships throughout the United States.

The bonded extruded aluminum monocoque chassis and carbon fiber body are made in England by Lotus Motorsports. Both are then shipped to the Palo Alto, California plant where the car is assembled.

The solar powered Tesla has a maximum range of 244 miles thanks to the microprocessor-controlled lithium ion battery pack. There are 6,831 batteries weighing nearly 1,000 lbs. The roadster is equipped with ten way adjustable shocks, three way adjustable anti-roll bars, forged alloy wheels and 4 wheel ventilated disc brakes with ABS. The transmission is a single speed gearbox so there is no torque stealing shifting. The motor redlines at 14,000 RPM's and 121 MPH.

If you would like to learn more about electric vehicles or energy conservation, please stop by our showroom at 2213 Andrea Lane in Fort Myers. We'll be happy to take you for the ride of a lifetime. Give the office a call first at 239-432-1500 to make sure the car is there. We look forward to showing the Southwest Florida community what is possible!
