Solar Pool Heating is the most cost effective use of Solar Energy

There are over 200,000 solar pool heaters installed in the state of Florida. A properly sized solar pool heater can heat your pool to desired temperatures year round. All the heat generated by a solar pool heater after installation is free compliments of the sun! You can spend thousands of dollars over the years heating a pool with a gas heater or swimming pool heat pump, so for many homeowners, solar becomes the logical choice.

3 Major Components to the Solar Water Heating System

A typical thermal solar water heating system requires 3 major components:

  • The solar collectors
  • A heat storage area
  • A circulating system

Swimming pools already have two of the three components a solar system requires. The only additional component a solar pool heater requires is the solar collectors. The existing circulating pump for the pool water is used to pump the water through the solar collectors and the pool serves as the heat storage area.

With the “free heat” produced by a solar pool heater, commercial pools in Fort Myers, Naples and nearby areas can benefit the most from a solar pool heating system. Many commercial pools are heated regardless of weather conditions and require a back up heat pump or gas heater. (pic of solar pool heater residential and commercial)

How a Solar Pool Heater Works

How a Solar System works

A solar swimming pool heater uses your existing pump to circulate the water in your pool through the system. The process begins with an automatic control that senses any change in radiant heat from the sun or water temperature and relays this information to a control valve. The control valve then diverts the pool water to the collectors when sufficient energy is available, or bypasses the solar collectors when heat is not needed or available.

The water is efficiently heated as it flows through the passageways within the collectors. The water then flows back into your Fort Myers or Naples area pool through the pool piping at your desired temperature. The solar collectors can be mounted either on a roof or a ground rack.
