Insulation is one of the most cost effective ways to reduce your electric bills. In Fort Myers and Naples, the vast majority of heat gain is through your roof. High R value insulation prevents this heat penetration. Not only can you reduce your energy consumption with insulation, but it also has a profound effect on moisture, humidity, noise and the quality of the air inside your home.

There are different types of insulation that can vary greatly in price. Most homes have R19 insulation and could benefit by increasing their R value to R30. Above R30 the additional savings is marginal.

Blown Fiberglass Insulation

Fiberglass insulation is the most commonly used insulation. It comes in the form of a blanket or can be blown in the attic of your home. This is the least expensive, however other types of insulation offer additional benefits.

Spray Foam Insulation: Open Cell & Closed Cell

There are two types of spray foam insulation, open cell and closed cell. Conventional fiberglass is installed on top of your ceiling and in most cases leaves your air conditioning ductwork exposed to extremely hot conditions in the attic. A home with spray foam insulation will reduce the temperature in the attic approximately 50 degrees Fahrenheit which dramatically reduces the heat gain in the air conditioning ductwork.

Closed cell spray foam offers additional benefits of storm protection. The foam is very dense and bonds the roof trusses to the roof decking and creates a secondary water barrier.
