In south and central Florida unheated pools can only be used comfortably 4 or 5 months of the year. A properly sized solar pool heater can double your swim season and with the use of a pool cover under normal conditions you can swim year round.
In a typical thermal solar heater there are 3 major components – the solar collectors, a heat storage area and a circulating system. With a solar pool heater the only additional component required is the solar collectors as the existing circulating pump for the pool water is used to pump the water through the solar collectors and the heat storage area is the pool itself.
