Our free energy audit consists of analyzing your current energy consumption and determining what you can do to conserve energy and reduce your electric bills. In most cases we can cut electric consumption 20% to 50 %.
Our auditors measure each room and window in your home and then do a Manual J load calculation to determine how much air flow (CFM) is required for each room.
We test you air conditioning system including your ductwork and measure the actual air flow (CFM). We measure the temperature differential (DeltaT) of the air conditioning system and compare it’s efficiency to the rated capacity. Our diagnostic equipment can pinpoint where your ductwork is leaking and if it is properly sized. More than 70% of the homes we test have undersized ductwork.
Most air conditioning contractors focus on the equipment only portion of an air conditioner with no attention paid to the air distribution system. We look at the entire system because it does no good to put in a high efficiency system only to pump cool air into your attic.
Next we will calculate your hot water consumption and determine if a solar water heater would is a viable option. Water heating is the second largest consumer in a home next to air conditioning. If you are a full time resident this is almost a given with all the incentives available from the 30% Federal Tax Credit, the $500 Florida State Rebate and utility company incentives. Even with just two people in a household the return on investment is 14% a year.
Building codes for new construction require R19 insulation as a minimum. We measure the R Value of your insulation to see if you would benefit by installing more. We offer soy based spray foam insulation that is environmentally friendly as it is made of soy beans instead of petroleum products. It actually seals off your attic and eliminates hot air intrusion into the area where most air conditioning duct work is located. We also offer traditional blown in insulation.
We check your windows and doors for leakage as well as heat gain. We offer window film that can dramatically reduce the heat gain in a home.
If you have a pool we’ll check your equipment including the circulating pump and heater. There are new pool pumps that can cut electric consumption from 30 to 90 percent and super efficient heat pumps that can cut pool heating costs more than 75% when compared to gas heaters. We also offer solar pool heaters that can eliminate pool heating cost in many cases.
We also look at your appliances to see if you could benefit by replacing any of them. Many times people have old refrigerators out in the garage that consume lots of power and are used very little.
